DUI

First thing, before we go into the search of dui lawyer, we wanted to clear out is what does DUI exactly mean. Probably most of you that will come to this site already know, but still if you are not a native speaker or you were not born in the United States or any other English speaking country then you might not know what DUI stands for. DUI is an abbreviation or in other words DUI is short for Driving Under Influence.

Driving Under Influence of what you ask? Most of the times it means influence of alcohol, but it is not necessary for dui to only be referred to alcohol. Any substances that leave the driver of the car or any other vehicle intoxicated are counted here. So apart from alcohol, the next most usual substance are drugs.

Of course for a thing like DUI there is more than one expression. While it stands for driving under influence it can be replaced by any of the following words and expressions:
- driving while intoxicated (DWI),
- drunk driving,
- drinking and driving,
- drink-driving,
- driving while impaired (also DWI),
- operating while intoxicated (OWI),
- operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OMVI),
- driving under the influence (DUI),
- driving under the combined influence of alcohol and/or other drugs,
- driving under the influence per se or
- drunk in charge.

While so far we were explaining word definition - now it is time to take a look what it actually means to DUI - to drive under influence. A definition of DUI is the following:

It is the act of operating a motor vehicle (it doesn't have to be a motor vehicle for that matter, it can also be a bike, boat or horse in some places) after you have consumed alcohol, or other drugs. The result of the alcohol and/or drugs are impaired mental and motor skills. With impaired mental and motor skills the driver is much more likely to cause an accident. Material damage, emotional distress or even death can be result of DUI accidents. This is the reason that dui is a crime in most countries around the world.

And if you do the crime then most of the time it is wise to get a good lawyer in this case a DUI lawyer.
